About Us
Institute of Medical Genetics and Genomics, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital
The Institute of Medical Genetics and Genomics (IMGG) at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of genetic disorders. Our mission encompasses cutting-edge research, comprehensive clinical care, and collaborative efforts to address the complexities of genetic conditions. We are committed to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by rare genetic disorders, with a special focus on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Collaboration with IIT Kanpur
In an exciting partnership with IIT Kanpur, a leading institution renowned for its research and technological advancements, we are undertaking a pioneering cohort study on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This collaboration synergizes the clinical expertise of SGRH with the advanced research capabilities of IIT Kanpur, enabling us to explore new frontiers in DMD research and treatment. Together, we aim to drive significant advancements in the understanding of DMD and develop novel therapeutic strategies.
Our Mission
Our collaborative study focuses on achieving the following key objectives:
- Advance Research: Conduct in-depth studies to unravel the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms of DMD. This includes identifying potential biomarkers and understanding disease progression.
- Innovate Treatments: Develop and test groundbreaking therapeutic approaches, such as gene therapy, to address the underlying causes of DMD. Our goal is to enhance patient outcomes and extend the quality of life.
- Enhance Care: Deliver multidisciplinary care tailored to the unique needs of DMD patients. This includes specialized physiotherapy, regular functional assessments, psychological support, and coordination with other healthcare providers.
Our Goals
We are committed to achieving the following goals through our collaborative efforts:
- Research Excellence: Utilize the combined expertise of SGRH and IIT Kanpur to conduct high-impact research. We aim to publish our findings in leading scientific journals and present them at international conferences.
- Patient-Centric Approach: Ensure that our research and treatment plans are developed with a focus on the needs and experiences of our patients and their families. We involve patients in the research process to gather valuable insights and feedback.
- Community Engagement: Build a supportive community for DMD families through outreach programs, educational workshops, and support groups. We actively seek to engage with families and patients to better understand their needs and challenges.
Impact of Our Work
Our collaborative efforts are designed to bring about transformative changes in the field of genetic disorders. By integrating advanced research with clinical practice, we aim to offer new hope to DMD patients and their families. Our work promises to lead to more effective treatments, improved care standards, and a better quality of life for those affected by DMD.
